Creating a plan for the year with vision board supplies is a fun and creative way to focus on your goals and work toward your dreams…both big and small.

It can be easy to look around and see people doing big things and really look like they are going places. But one of the things people with big success do is envision where they are going. They make goals for 1 year…5 years…10 years from now.

I’ll never forget when I began my journey into having a business. Right before I began, I was in the middle of a season of burnout. We made a bunch of changes to our life. I started to regain some margin. But I was also having this major realization that I didn’t have any goals…none…zero zip zilch.

That spurred me on to really drill down and think about what kinds of goals I wanted to set…what kind of dreams we should be dreaming.

And that is why I love vision boards. They are such a simple tool to dream on paper. You can do it for free using supplies you readily have on hand!

Whether you prefer a physical vision board or a digital one, the process of vision boarding can be tailored to your unique style. Here’s a step-by-step checklist to help you gather the necessary supplies and build your vision board with ease.

Step 1: Choose Your Base

First, decide what kind of board you want to use. A cork board, foam board, white board, or even a piece of poster board can serve as the foundation for your vision board. You can also choose to build your vision board virtually and then print it off! Each option has its benefits:

  • Cork board: Great for push pins and rearranging items.
  • White board: Perfect for writing and erasing notes.
  • Foam board: Lightweight and sturdy for crafting projects.
  • Bulletin board: A versatile choice for displaying your goals.

Pick the one that best fits your needs and creative style.

Step 2: Gather Essential Vision Board Supplies

Having the right supplies makes the process smoother. Here are some essentials to consider:

  • Glue stick or white glue for sticking items securely.
  • Double-sided tape or adhesive tape for an easier solution.
  • Washi tape to add pops of color and patterns.
  • Push pins for adjustable layouts.
  • Magazine clippings or free magazines to cut out inspirational images and motivational quotes.
  • Printable vision board templates for those who prefer structured layouts.

You can find these supplies at craft stores, dollar stores, or online through Amazon (affiliate links can be helpful for delivery time).

Step 3: Collect Images and Quotes

Gather images and affirmations that inspire you. Look for:

  • Old magazines or magazine subscriptions for vibrant visuals.
  • Inspirational images that represent areas of your life you want to improve.
  • Motivational quotes and affirmation cards to keep you focused on your long-term goals.

Tip: Free printables and vision board kits can save time if you don’t have access to magazines.

Step 4: Define Your Goals

Think about the areas of your life you want to focus on. Whether it’s personal growth, career success, or family milestones, having a clear vision is key. Write down your big goals and long-term goals to use as a guide for your board.

Step 5: Lay Out Your Vision Board

Organize your supplies and start laying out your items. Consider using:

  • Different shapes and different colors to create a visually engaging design.
  • Sections for each area of your life, like health, relationships, and finances.
  • A mix of magazine cut-outs, bullet journal elements, and affirmation cards for variety.

Step 6: Secure Your Items

Use your adhesive of choice to secure everything to your board. Remember:

  • A glue stick works well for paper.
  • Double-sided tape provides a clean look.
  • Push pins make it easy to adjust your layout.

Step 7: Add Creative Touches

Make your board uniquely yours by adding:

  • Washi tape for decorative borders.
  • Craft projects, like hand-drawn illustrations or stickers.
  • A vision board book or printable templates to enhance the design.

Step 8: Review and Reflect

Take a step back to review your vision board. Does it represent your goals? Does it inspire you? If not, make adjustments. Vision boarding is a powerful tool for goal setting and manifestation, so take your time.

Step 9: Display Your Vision Board

Place your board where you’ll see it daily. Good places include:

  • Your bedroom or office.
  • A shared space for a vision board party with family members.
  • A digital vision board on your phone or computer for easy access.

Step 10: Revisit and Update

Your vision board isn’t a static project. As you achieve goals and set new ones, update your board. This keeps it fresh and aligned with your evolving vision. Dream boarding is a journey, and each new board represents a step toward your dream life.

Building a vision board is an awesome idea to set the tone for a new year or any new chapter in your life. With just a little bit of effort and the right supplies, you can create a beautiful vision board that serves as a daily reminder of your aspirations. Whether you’re working on personal growth, setting big goals, or just exploring creative ways to stay motivated, a vision board is a powerful tool that can help you every step of the way.
